New Jeddah property for Rosewood
Business
and leisure travelers in Saudi Arabia were presented with a new luxury hotel
choice on September 8, when Rosewood Corniche opened its doors to guests.
The latest property in the international Rosewood Hotels & Resorts
collection, and the third in the kingdom, overlooks the Red Sea from its
positioning on the Jeddah Corniche.
Concord to build $500 million in new hotels
Concord Hospitality Enterprises announced plans to build $500 million in new
hotels as part of its goal to double its portfolio size to 100 owned and
managed hotels by 2010. The announcement came on the heels of the sale
by Concord of a 19-hotel portfolio of Marriott-branded properties in eight
states for $440 million.
First Angsana Resort and Spa in Jordan
Banyan
Tree has signed a new management contract for its first Angsana Resort and
Spa by the Dead Sea in Jordan. This new management contract follows from the
group’s continued strategy of expansion in the Middle East, making it the
group’s ninth property in the region, whilst simultaneously adding a sixth
project in the portfolio of Angsana properties, which is currently being
developed in Abu Dhabi, Dubai (two properties), Fujairah and Oman.
UAE first for Iberotel
October
1 will see the opening of Miramar Al Aqah Beach Resort, the latest edition
to the Iberotel hotels and the first resort in the UAE and GCC region.
Miramar Al Aqah Beach Resort, featuring 321 rooms facing the ocean and 200m
of private white sandy beach, is located on the east coast of the UAE,
approximately five km from Dibba village, 45km from Fujairah city and 90
minutes from Dubai.
Record arrivals to Egypt
Egypt
received a record 9.7 million visitors in 2006 and 2007, 13 per cent up on
8.6 million in 2006 according to reports. The visitors brought $8.2 billion
to the country, a 14 per cent increase on $7.2 billion in the previous year,
preserving the status of tourism as a major contributor to Egypt's current
account, along with oil and gas exports, Suez Canal transit fees and
remittances from Egyptians working abroad.
First Shariah suite hotel in Dubai
The new Millennium Burooj Suites Hotel Apartments opening in
October in Port Saeed, Dubai, will be the first all-suite hotel worldwide
for Millennium Hotels & Resorts, and the company’s first Shariah residential
property. In addition to 164 one- and two-bedroom suites, plus two penthouse
suites, the hotel will offer three restaurants, a swimming pool, a gymnasium
and meeting rooms.
Golden Tulip to manage more hotels
Dutch
chain Golden Tulip Hospitality is negotiating at least ten new hotel
management contracts in the Gulf in its efforts to expand in the
under-served mid-range and budget accommodation segments. Golden Tulip is
operating 12 hotels in the GCC and six are scheduled to open in 2008 and
2009.
