Sunway Lagoon set for brand makeover
Malaysia’s Sunway Lagoon is rebranding itself from a theme park into an
events venue for local and global markets. A slew of new attractions is set
to enhance its Asia's Best Attraction status, awarded from the International
Association of Amusement Parks & Attractions. “From having just the Water
Park and Amusement Park, we are now a multi-park destination including a
Wildlife Park, Extreme Park and Scream Park, offering a total of 80
different attractions with many fabulous ideas as an events venue. A 5D
theatre will also be introduced at the Amusement Park, while a giant water
slide, The Tornado, is currently making its debut at the Water Park.
Movenpick opens second Thai property
Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has undertaken the management of the Palm Beach
Club hotel and rebranded it as Mövenpick Residences Laguna Beach Phuket.
Mövenpick Residences Laguna Beach Phuket is located on Bang Tao Beach and
features 39 residences, including penthouses and two- and three-bedroom
suites, some with a private pool or Jacuzzi. The resort will complement the
Mövenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket, the first property the hotel
company opened in Thailand in 2006.
Best Western adds Jakarta to
portfolio
Best Western International has opened the BEST WESTERN Mangga Dua Hotel and
Residence in Jakarta, the chain’s first property in the Indonesian capital,
and its third in the country. Offering 148 rooms and 20 suites, the hotel is
situated in the Mangga Dua shopping area, close to major shopping malls WTC
Mangga Dua and Mangga Dua Square. Also in the vicinity are the Jakarta
Convention Center, corporate offices and banks
Six Senses opens spa in Kuwait
Thailand based Six Senses Spas & Resorts will open a Six Senses Spa at Hotel
Missoni Kuwait in early summer 2011. The 1,500m2 spa, located on the second
floor of the five-star designer hotel launched in March this year, will have
13 treatment rooms including two Hammams (Turkish baths), separate areas for
men and women and a bridal room with salon, pedicure and manicure areas. The
spa will also house a fitness centre with mixed and ladies-only gyms, a yoga
studio, experience showers, saunas, steam rooms and luxurious relaxation
areas
Hyatt launches three new hotels in Makkah
Hyatt Hotels Corporation recently announced that a Hyatt affiliate has
entered into an agreement with Jabal Omar Development Company to manage
three Hyatt-branded hotels in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. Hyatt Regency Mecca,
Hyatt Place Mecca and Hyatt Summerfield Suites Mecca, which represent the
first Hyatt-branded hotels in Makkah, are planned to be part of a two phase
planned mixed use development with a built up area of more than two million
m2.
Gold Coast gets US$63 million to develop tourism
THE Gold Coast City Council has voted in favour of funding Gold Coast
Tourism to the tune of AUD$11.4 million (US$12.1 million) per annum over the
next five years, with an additional AUD$2.5 million for new growth
initiatives. Gold Coast Tourism chairman, Paul Donovan, said the confidence
and support of the city council in funding tourism efforts is commendable.
“This council is one of the few in Australia that truly recognises the
significance of tourism, and is willing to fully support the industry,” he
said. The rejuvenated tourism plan focuses on high return destination
marketing, with seven stimulus initiatives to increase visitor expenditure
and average length of stay over the next 12 month
City Seasons Muscat Hotel soft opens
City Seasons Hotel Muscat opened doors for its soft launch phase last month.
