Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts has unveiled its
first Middle East property in Bahrain.
Banyan Tree Al Areen presents a total of 78 villas, 56 one-bedroom
desert pool villas, and 22 two-bedroom royal pool villas, each spanning
740m². The resort also features private open-air swimming and jet pools, and
infinity bath tubs. Capturing the essence of Arabia, each villa is designed
to incorporate a blend of traditional Middle Eastern and contemporary Asian
architecture. The interior combines arabesque style furnishings with Far
Eastern fabrics.
Nakheel
and Bharat Hotels announces joint venture hotel in
Dubai
Nakheel- the world's largest privately held real estate developer in Dubai
and Bharat Hotels- owners of 'The Grand' group of hotels, have announced a
joint venture to build a brand new hotel in Dubai. 'The Grand Fort Dubai'
will be built at an elevated position in Jebel Ali and the 244-room super
luxury resort is expected to commence operations in 2009 and will be
architecturally inspired by the majestic forts of Rajasthan in India
TAT Expands Presence in New Markets
The Tourism Authority of Thailand will add three more overseas
offices in Dubai, Vietnam and Moscow this year to promote tourism in these
emerging markets. TAT governor Phornsiri Manoharn said the Dubai
office would look after 11 countries in the Middle East while the Moscow
office would be responsible for Eastern Europe. The TAT estimates tourism
revenue from the Middle East will reach 16 billion baht this year from about
410,000 arrivals.
New player enters Middle East hotel arena
Hong
Kong-based Swiss-Belhotel International has emerged as a new player in
the competitive Middle Eastern hotel market.The
company is spearheading its entry into the region with the opening of a
Dubai operations and development office, the announcement of new hotels in
Saudi Arabia and Jordan, and the acquisition of an existing property in
Kuwait.
Accor moves headquarters
Accor Asia Pacific has confirmed that it is to
establish its Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore by the end of this
year. Accor Asia Pacific is currently based in Bangkok. In a separate move,
the hotel group has signed its largest ever hotel project in Singapore, the
construction of a 538 room Ibis hotel in Bencoolen Street in the heart of
Singapore’s central business district, expected to open in early 2009.
Fierce recruitment competition
In order to sustain the rapid development of hotels and regional tourism
infrastructure, the tourism industry in the Middle East will require 1.5
million employees by 2017, according to research conducted by Global
Future and Foresight. An unprecedented number of hotel and resort
developments are scheduled for completion within the region in the next few
years, which will require trained staff not only for standard hotel
positions, but also for serviced apartments, spas and recreation facilities
