Shangri-La's Golden Sands Resort, Penang,
Re-Opens
Shangri-La's Golden Sands Resort, Penang, has just completed a year-long
RM50 million ($14 million) redevelopment programme. Located on the gorgeous
beach front of Batu Feringgi, the resort chose to start its redevelopment
programme in late 2008 - amidst the wreckage of the global economic crisis.
The 387 guest rooms look fresh and homely, and include the largest
family-sized rooms for a hotel of its class in Penang. Best of the bunch
however, are the 14 suites which offer panoramic coastal views. Other
notable features include a water sports centre, three tennis courts, a
Par-3 Executive Golf Course, a spa and beauty centre as well as two
lagoon-shaped swimming pools.
Sunrise Diamond opens its doors in Sharm El Sheikh
Egypt-based Sunrise Resorts & Cruises recently welcomed the newest member to
its family with the opening of Sunrise Diamond Beach Resort in Sharm El
Sheikh. Recently announced by chairman, Sunrise Group, Hossam El Shaer, the
five-star, 438-room resort is located in an extensive landscape and boasts a
private sandy beach offering relaxing hours directly at the Red Sea, as well
as three pools and five-star culinary at its four restaurants and six bars.
Green Globe Bronze Benchmarked status for Dusit Thani Dubai
Dusit Thani Dubai, the flagship property in the Middle East region for Dusit
International, has achieved Green Globe Bronze Benchmarked 2010 status,
making it the first Dusit property to receive this prestigious award. The
Green Globe Benchmarked certification is recognition for Dusit Thani Dubai’s
efforts to operate responsibly and establish procedures that will ensure a
sustainable future. Examples of the hotel’s initiatives that won it the
certification include water conservation where water-saving devices were
installed, in all guestrooms and public areas.
Kempinski Residences & Suites, Doha to open in April
The Kempinski Residences & Suites, Doha; the first property in Qatar
operated by the renowned global hospitality group is set to open in April
2010. Currently the tallest and the only square structured building on
Qatar’s dominating West Bay skyline, the 62-floor residence tower will have
370 fully-furnished serviced apartments and suites for short-, mid- and
long-term rental, targeting residents as well as corporate travellers.
New property for Hilton Hotels in Cairo
Hilton Worldwide has signed a Management Agreement with High for Touristic
Projects (part of The Egyptian Engineers Companies – Zaghloul Group) for the
new-build Hilton Heliopolis in Egypt’s capital Cairo, scheduled to open in
2014.The 485-room and 150-apartment low-rise property located in Cairo’s
upmarket Heliopolis suburb adjoins an integrated shopping complex, and is
next to the Cairo International Airport.
Shangri-La unveils its newest luxury hotel
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, Asia Pacific’s leading luxury hotel group,
has celebrated the opening of Shangri-La Hotel, Guilin. Located on the banks
of the Li River in China, Shangri-La Hotel, Guilin features many of the
city’s firsts and superlatives. These include the city’s largest guestrooms,
the largest state-of-the-art meeting and conference facilities, the only
hotel to have a wedding pagoda, and the first hotel to feature indoor and
