Indonesia targets Middle East for tourism growth
Indonesia, the world’s largest archipelago of more than 17,500 islands,
expects a further boost with tourist interest from the Middle East,
particularly the UAE. According to the data from the National Statistical
Bureau, the UAE is an increasingly important growth area for Indonesia’s
tourism sector, with the number of UAE visitors to Indonesia increasing by
more than 30 per cent between 2009 and 2010, climbing to more than 4,900
from 3,760. In addition to exploring Indonesia’s cultural diversity and
natural beauty among its 17,500 islands, Indonesia also offers many other
tourism opportunities. These include adventure tourism, shopping in Jakarta
and Bandung, world-class golf courses and traditional health and beauty
treatments, all within a safe, family-oriented holiday destination
Accor expands its portfolio in Saudi Arabia
Accor Middle East, one of the leading hospitality groups in the region, has
announced it is strengthening its presence in Saudi Arabia. In addition to
its current 10 hotels in Saudi Arabia, representing 2,190 rooms in five
different cities, Accor is expected to open three new hotels by the end of
2012 and has signed management contracts for a further two hotels. The
current network of Accor hotels in Saudi Arabia covers brands such as
Sofitel, Novotel and Mercure. Some of the flagship properties can be seen
for example in Riyadh with Novotel Al Anoud or in Al Khobar with Sofitel the
Corniche.
Ayla Hotels introduces Ayla Hotel Al Ain

Ritz-Carlton embarks on global
expansion
The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company has launched a major expansion and
development initiative, which will bring the number of properties in its
global portfolio to over 100 by 2016. The initiative, which will involve 36
hotels and residential projects, represents an investment of more than US$2
billion. Properties including The Ritz-Carlton, Riyadh, The Ritz-Carlton Abu
Dhabi, Grand Canal, and The Ritz-Carlton Residences in Singapore are
scheduled to debut by end 2011. Hotel openings in emerging destinations such
as Chengdu, and an expansion of The Ritz-Carlton, Dubai are slated for 2012.
By 2013, Ritz-Carlton plans to have a presence in places such as Quy Nhon in
Vietnam, and Cairo in Egypt.
Hilton in deal to take over RAK's Al Hamra hotel
US hotelier Hilton Worldwide has signed a deal to take over operation of the
government-owned Al Hamra Fort Hotel in Ras Al Khaimah.
The 249-room
hotel, one of the emirate’s oldest - will become part of Hilton’s property
portfolio in the first quarter of 2013. The hotel will keep its Arabic
fort-style villas but will undergo extensive renovation to enhance and
update facilities. Hilton Al Hamra Resort & Spa will feature eight food and
beverage outlets including an all-day dining restaurant and three specialty
restaurants, in addition to a lobby lounge and three bars. Recreational
facilities will include an executive lounge, private beach, water sports
facilities, swimming pools, kids club, mini-golf facilities, tennis courts
and a health club and spa. |
