Middle East visitors flock to Singapore
Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has announced that it was able to record its
fifth consecutive year of increase in tourist arrivals from the Middle East
in 2009. Singapore welcomed117,000 visitors from the Middle East in 2009, a
2.7 per cent growth over 2008, while total visitor arrivals to Singapore
reached 9.7 million visitors exceeding the year’s forecast of nine million
to 9.5 million visitor arrivals.
Riyadh to welcome first Hilton-branded
property
Hilton Worldwide has announced the signing of a management agreement with
Saudi Arabia's Granada Investment Centre for the first Hilton-branded
property in Riyadh, scheduled to open in 2013. Located on Riyadh's Eastern
Ring Road between the 466,000m² Granada Centre, one of the capital's largest
shopping and entertainment malls, and Granada Business Park, the new-build
Hilton Riyadh Hotel & Residence is set to feature two towers; a 20-storey
480-room hotel tower, and a 14-storey tower with 350 hotel apartments.
Holiday Inn opens at Walt Disney
Holiday Inn has opened a Walt Disney property with a 14-story, 323-room
hotel, located on Orlando's Hotel Plaza Boulevard, marking the latest
property to be part of the $1 billion global re-launch of the Holiday Inn
brand. The Holiday Inn brand re-launch is regarded as the largest in the
history of the hospitality industry, with more than 3,300 hotels being
updated – improving quality and driving consistency at Holiday Inn and
Holiday Inn Express hotels around the world.
IHG opens a record 439 hotels in 2009
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) opened a record 439 hotels in 2009,
adding a total of 55,000 rooms to the worldwide hotel business.
The bulk
of the openings were in the Americas region, with 375 openings, more than
half of which were across the Holiday Inn and Holiday Express brands.
Technogym equips The Yas Hotel Abu Dhabi
Technogym has announced that installation of its latest wellness equipment
Cardio line and Kinesis One at The Yas Hotel Abu Dhabi. The hotel is built
on Yas Island set half on land and half on water, overlooking the marina and
the Yas Marina Formula 1 Circuit race track which hosted the inauguration of
the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in November. The Kinesis innovation and
technology now available at the hotel is a single stand alone station known
as Kinesis One. Developed as a free standing unit with reduced footprint,
Kinesis One provides a complete training solution for the gym floor.
Golden award for Mövenpick Hotel Sana’a
Mövenpick Hotel Sana’a has won the prestigious Golden Award for Tourist,
Hotel and Catering Industry. The award was presented by the
Madrid-headquartered Trade Leaders Club, a business organisation
representing over 7,000 producers and service providers across 120
countries.
Coral Hotels makes history in Cape Town
The curtain has gone up in style on Coral International Cape Town, a
property that serves as the centrepiece of the city on the border of Bo-Kaap,
a 20-minute drive from Cape Town International Airport. Owned by Cii Hotel &
Resorts Cape Town – a subsidiary of Cii Holdings, Coral International Cape
Town was under construction since the first quarter of 2007 and has been
built at a cost of $40 million. Coral Hotels & Resorts is the first Gulf
hotel brand to make the journey to South Africa and is looking to expand its
presence in the country. |
