Australia's Hayman reopens
Hayman Great Barrier Reef has re-opened following a five-month closure to
repair the damage caused by a series of tropical cyclones earlier in the
year. Owned and operated by Mulpha Australia, and a member of The Leading
Hotels of the World, Hayman now features a recreated 16-hectare garden with
some 33,000 new plants and 327 new plant species. Besides revamped
restaurant concepts including the beachfront Azure, offering breakfast and
evening grills, and Fontaine, offering contemporary Australian cuisine, the
resort has also introduced upgraded facilities featuring floodlit tennis
courts, squash courts, a personal training room, a walking trail, a
basketball court and a golf putting green and driving range.
Centara to open new Centra brand hotel in Bali
Centara Hotels and Resorts has announced that it is set to open the first
overseas property of its Centra value brand at Bali, Indonesia, in November
of this year. Centra Taum Resort Bali is set to be located in Seminyak, on
the west coast of the island, within five minutes’ walk from the beach.
Centra Taum Resort Bali is expected to have a total of 90 rooms, of which 53
are deluxe studio rooms at 42 to 58m2 in area, 27 are two-bedroom
at 63m2 , and 10 are three-bedroom at 75 to 105m2.
Le Meridien Koh Samui to open in
October
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide will operate a Le Méridien resort on Koh
Samui from October 1, 2011. Located on Lamai Beach on the east coast of Koh
Samui, the resort is a short drive to the island's recreational and cultural
facilities, including Lamai Temple and the Yacht Club. The property will
offer 77 guest rooms and villas, three F&B venues, a full-service spa with
six treatment rooms, a fitness centre, four swimming pools and 100m2
of meeting and event space.
Starwood expanding Saudi presence
Starwoodis to expand its presence in Saudi Arabia with the opening of two
new hotels, adding more than 450 rooms in the city of Madinah. Owned by
Saudi Brothers Commercial Company, the Sheraton Madinah Hotel and Four
Points by Sheraton Madinah are both scheduled to open in the fourth quarter
of 2012. Starwood’s continued expansion throughout Saudi Arabia underlines
its commitment to continued growth in the region. This beautiful city is
rich in culture and history and Starwood says it is confident the facilities
and services offered by its new hotels will be appreciated by the pilgrims
visiting the Holy City. Starwood Hotels & Resorts currently operates 10
hotels in Saudi Arabia under the Sheraton, Westin and Le Meridien brands.
Ritz-Carlton takes over Al Bustan
The Ritz-Carlton has entered an agreement with Oman’s tourism ministry and
taken over management of the Al Bustan Palace in Muscat, Oman, from IHG. In
addition to the 250 spacious rooms and suites – all of which feature their
own private balcony - the hotel offers meeting and banquet facilities for up
to 720 guests, 200 acres of landscaped gardens and the longest beach in the
country. Recreational facilities include five swimming pools, a
well-appointed spa, a water sports centre, and a tennis village with four
floodlit courts. The hotel’s seven restaurants and bars include Al Marjan
Bistro, featuring contemporary French cuisine; China Mood, the fine-dining
Cantonese restaurant; Al Khiran Terrace restaurant with multiple-themed
buffets and live cooking stations and Al Maha Piano Bar, offering nightly
live entertainment.
Marriott to
make Sri Lankan return
Marriott International is marking its return to Sri Lanka through the
management of a 150-room beach resort in the country’s south. Luxury Hotels
International Management, a Marriott-linked special purpose vehicle for Sri
Lankan operations, has signed an agreement with Weligama Hotel Properties, a
subsidiary of local hotel developer East West Properties, to operate the
resort. Construction on the US$18 million property located in the Weligama
Bay area is scheduled to start later this year and be completed within two
