Courtyard by Marriott makes Indonesian debut
MARRIOTT International’s largest hotel brand, Courtyard by Marriott, has
opened its first hotel in Indonesia, the Courtyard Bali Nusa Dua. The
250-room hotel is owned by PT Peninsula Bali Resort and will operate under a
long-term management agreement with Marriott International, with Philip
Spencer as general manager. Over the next few years, Courtyard is planning
to enter into several new countries, including Cambodia, Romania and
Jamaica. The overall portfolio is expected to total more than 1,000 hotels
in 40 countries by 2013.
Fairmont Dubai awarded hotel of the year
Fairmont Hotels and Resorts has revealed that it has honoured one of its
properties located in Dubai with two highly coveted awards. With over 60
Fairmont properties poised for recognition in over 10 categories, Fairmont
Dubai was the recipient of ‘Hotel of the Year’ and ‘Enviro Star of the Year’
awards. Following these two triumphs, regional vice president, Fairmont
Hotels and Resorts – UAE, and general manager, Fairmont Dubai, Philip Barnes
stated: “This acknowledgement is a true reflection of our team’s commitment
to the guest experience.
St. Regis to open new hotel in Abu Dhabi
St. Regis has announced that it is extending its legacy in Abu Dhabi with
the opening of its first property in the Middle East, namely, St. Regis
Saadiyat Resort and Residences. Expected to open on November 1, 2011, St.
Regis Saadiyat Island Resort and Residences is designed to feature 380
rooms, 259 St. Regis branded apartments, an entertainment complex of shops
and restaurants, a function area capable of seating 1,500 guests, a spa with
13 treatment rooms, as well as a St. Regis Athletic Club.
Hyatt Hotels to open hotels in Abu Dhabi, Goa
and the Maldives
Hyatt Hotels and Resorts has announced the upcoming 2011 openings of key
properties across the UAE, India and the Maldives as part of the group’s
commitment to provide guests with increased choices of accommodation in key
destinations. Occupying levels 18-32 of the Capital Gate building and
conveniently linked to Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), the
189-room Hyatt Capital Gate is scheduled to open in the last quarter of
2011. Hyatt Hotels Corporation has also recently announced the agreement
with Driftwood Maldives Private in order to manage Park Hyatt Maldives
Hadahaa, which has commenced its operations as of April 1, 2011.

Sheraton drives Starwood portfolio growth in 2011
Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide has announced that its Sheraton brand
continues to lead the company’s global growth and strengthen the group’s
position as one of the largest international hotel operators in China.
Twenty-five new Sheraton hotels are expected to open this year, including 16
in cities across China. Sheraton is also set to lead Starwood Hotels and
Resorts’ future global expansion and represent 30 per cent of the company’s
