Qatar
hailed a rising Middle East destination
Qatar has been recognised as an emerging destination for meetings and events
with a potential future, according to the
Middle East
Meetings Industry
research report 2009 presented during Gulf Incentive, Business Travel and
Meetings exhibition (GIBTM). 12 per cent of buyers questioned in this survey
declared having organised an event in Qatar in 2008, which ranks Qatar as
the seventh favourite destination among the Arab states. As per this survey,
buyers are set to increase their use of Qatar as a meetings destination by
10.5 per cent in the next 12 months. Qatar moved to sixth position in the
rating of the experience at the destinations with over 55 per cent of buyers
rating Qatar as a very good destination for services, quality, and the range
of cultural activities.
The Address, Dubai wins‘ New Hotel
2008’ at World Hotel Awards

Kempinski
Hotel Soma Bay opens this month
Kempinski Hotels has announced that its new holiday resort in Egypt,
Kempinski Hotel Soma Bay, is opening this month after almost two years of
construction and outfitting. The resort boasts various multi level swimming
pools and a lazy river, a 2,000m² spa and health club, an 18-hole and a
nine-hole golf course as well as a number of food and beverage options at
the four restaurants and three bars including The View overlooking the Red
Sea, a Lobby bar and lounge, a beach bar, a pool bar.
Swiss-Belhotel
to open property in Jordan
Swiss-Belhotel International has signed a management agreement to manage a
161-room resort and spa on the northern shores of the Dead Sea, Jordon, for
Winter Valley Tourism Investment Company of Jordan. Named Winter Valley Dead
Sea by Swiss-Belhotel and scheduled to be opened by late 2010, the hotel
will be branded as being associated and managed by international management
company Swiss-Belhotel International, and will offer complete spa services
with exclusive product lines and international facilities. This is the first
hotel for Swiss-Belhotel International in Jordan.
City Tower
launches third hotel apartments
UAE-based conglomerate City Tower Group has added another property to its
hospitality arm, City Tower Hotel Apartments.The hotel apartments were first
launched in Sharjah and then in Deira, and have now opened doors in Bur
Dubai’s Mankhool area. They comprise 126 units, including studios, and one-
and two-bedroom apartments, and include a swimming pool, a fully-equipped
gym, banquet facility, as well as a conference hall and business centre. The
property’s dining facilities include a 24-hour coffee shop and the in-house
restaurant, Q's Cuisine.
Park Inn
opens in Oman and Saudi Arabia
The Rezidor Hotel Group has opened the Middle East’s first Park Inn hotels
in Oman and Saudi Arabia, with Park Inn Muscat and Park Inn Al Khobar
already welcoming their first guests. “Park Inn is our fastest growing brand
– we have launched it in 2003 only and today have more than 120 properties
with over 22,000 rooms in operation and under development across Europe, the
Middle East and Africa,” commented president, The Rezidor Hotel Group, Kurt
